Re: Our quirky slang and childhood sayings.....
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 8:21 PMI used to walk up and down the street singing bugger, bugger bullshit.
In Christchurch as a little kid we used to go around the streets with our Guys at Guy Fawkes singing a song and begging for change which would allow us to buy crackers. The song was
Guy, Guy Guy
Stick him up high
Stick him on a lampost
And make him cry

Thu, June 15, 2006 - 8:22 PMNow you're taking me back. How about
Tell tale tit
Your tongue will split
And all the little puppy dogs will have a little bit
and
I'm telling on you
For doing a poo in a policemans shoe
And stirring it round with a TT2. -

Fri, June 16, 2006 - 7:49 AMGrouse. Still in common usage in Melbourne [the outer suburbs at least] and it's a dead giveaway, they always look very surprised, after they say it, when you ask if they're from Melbourne, they have no idea how you guessed!

Re: Our quirky slang and childhood sayings.....
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 1:10 AMThis guy I met at uni recently picked me for being Canadian right away. I was impressed and couldn't figure out what the giveaway was (cause after all, Canadians and Americans sound the same, right?)
Anyway the giveaway was the fact that I say "eh" a lot. Cringe! I had no idea, and me an anthropologist!
