We have heard about the opening up of immigration and are planning to get into the system, and hopefully, invited to apply for residency soon! Does anyone have any advice for us to help us on our path to becoming Kiwis?
We are both in our 30's. My fiancee is a Web Designer and I work in the animal care indrustry. I will soon be certified in animal acupressure. We both have enough points, according to the checklist, to submit an Expression of Interest. FBI check? Health check? There are a few steps and fees to be paid. Any help would be appreciated! We are dreaming of our new home in New Zealand and disconnecting from this mess called the U.S.!

Re: On our way!
Mon, July 17, 2006 - 5:55 PMYou will be fine if you meet the point requirements. If you look at the Immigration website there is a page somewhere where you can read about what jobs are really desired. That helps too. It ended up being easier than I had anticipated. -

Tue, July 18, 2006 - 11:52 AMAccording to the Immigration website, and the new, more open, criteria, we both have enough points to qualify alreay. And according to the Skill Shortage Lists, my fiancee's line is one of them! Yeah! Since we both have college degrees and years of experience, I'm hoping it will not be too difficult. I'm glad to hear that it was easier than you anticipated.
Thanks, Jess! -

Re: On our way!
Tue, July 18, 2006 - 11:12 PMMy partner and I've just done it. Bring your insurance records and driving record. That'll ease your (car) insurance rates here.
A job offer on paper eases all roads as well. US credit ratings mean noting here, so cash is the way until you can get a cell phone or something to start your credit history in nz.
Hope it helps,

Re: On our way!
Wed, July 19, 2006 - 5:03 PMCongratulations on you and your partner's recent success! Luckily our driving records are immaculate. Neither of us has ever been in a reported accident. Funny that your driving/insurance history is important but not your credit history. This is good, since my credit rating is not so immaculate. : )
It's o.k., just not as good as I'd like it to be.
We are working on securing job offers for both of us. Kevin will be looking in the Web design and computer industry. But he is also in the process of creating his own Web business. I am looking into opportunities in holistic animal care, massage, etc.
Thanks for the awesome advice! I am getting some great feedback that is helping tremendously!
